No New Clothes October.

So I spend a lot of time and money thinking about and buying clothes. Even so, I always feel like I have nothing to wear! So in order to save my sanity, I'm doing No New Clothes October. For the whole month, I am not going to buy any clothes.

It sounds crazy that this would even be a challenge but working retail is like getting peer pressured to shop on a daily basis. My willpower often fails me during a 9 hour shift.

This little project is inspired by an article where women limit their wardrobe to 6 items for a month and this one where women give up shopping for a year. Mostly though, it's because of my ever-shrinking bank account.

I have big plans for the next few months that hopefully include a trip to NYC to visit Allison (and catch Elf on Broadway) and a trip to DC to visit Sydney and Hannah. My other big venture is to save enough to go abroad again. I regret not going to France when I studied abroad and Paris has been on my brain lately. Word on the street is that traveling costs money, so hopefully this little experiment will help with that.

Who's going to join me in No New Clothes October? And who is going to think of a better name for it than that?

Hope you have a great weekend!

P.S. That rain I was enamored with yesterday has turned into massive flooding resulting and forced local schools to close.

**I've decided to call it All Clothes Left Behind! I'm glad several of you are joining in or else I'd be doomed for failure.

Rain, rain, stay around.

I am so happy it rained today. It made for a perfect day of sleeping in and reading. And I love seeing what kind of umbrellas people use. None were too interesting today but there is just something humorous to me about watching people dodging water drops like they are bullets.

My rain boots enjoyed it too, they've been dying to get out in the puddles.

September music: Arcade Fire.

My September listening was Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs." To be perfectly honest, I get bored by the time the 4th song comes on from the album and end up changing it.

I want to like it, I really do. That doesn't change the fact that it seems like work to listen to it. I've been waiting all month to make a judgment, hoping I would change my mind or that my musical palette might mature a little but it hasn't.

From what I can tell, I'm the only person in the world who isn't in love with this album. Still be my friend?

17 again.

So today at my internship (the pc term for student teaching), I was mistaken for a student. This isn't rare but today it got a little more serious.

I was minding my own business, feeling invincible and cute this morning when a teacher pointed at me and loudly said "no" as I tried to walk down the English hallway. I introduced myself as an intern, halfway expecting an apology from the accuser. All I got was "Well, you look like a child." Apology accepted? I sheepishly smiled and put on my school ID on which "staff" is spelled wrong as "staf."

Good thing I loved my outfit or else the day might have been ruined.

P.S. Don't fret-I still have a head, regardless of what that picture suggests.

Anna got married!

My beautiful and sweet friend Anna got married this weekend. It couldn't have been more perfect and she had a smile on her face the entire time. She has to be the most relaxed bride there ever was and I felt lucky to be a part of her and Arthur's day.

On Thursday, all the ladies went out for Anna's bachelorette party. And let me tell you, it was the best thing that ever happened to Pinehurst nightlife. Plenty of middle-aged golfers were around to supply the drinks for the bride to be.

On Friday, we had bridesmaid luncheon at Elliott's on Linden and ate way too much delicious food. A couple of hours later, we went to the rehearsal and practiced for the next day before heading to yet another great meal at 195. We were a well-fed wedding party.

After the wedding and all the pictures that ensued on Saturday, the wedding party went the reception that was held outside in beautiful tent and a giant dance floor that wasn't big enough to hold all the party animals that were there. The groom, Arthur, comes from a dancing family and they cut the rug until well past midnight! Even the groomsmen had some moves.

I loved the band that played- they played some throwbacks that got everybody on the dance floor. During "Shout," I'm not sure there was anyone who wasn't throwing their hands up!

Such a good weekend.

P.S. One of the band members looked strikingly like Seth Avett and you can see him in the background of the second picture.

Thieves among us.

Weekend Low: While At Windy Gap this weekend, Emma's car was violated by some thieves. They got away with 2 cell phones (mine and hers), an iPod, a GPS, an iPhone charger and a bag of Airheads. Yep, they took our treats for the ride home. And our music. And our directions.

Luckily, they didn't take our sense of humor. On the ride home, Emma said "I sure hope they enjoy all the indie Christmas music that was on my iPod."

So it wasn't a total disaster and I got this pic of Emma with the cop, which is worth at least a thousand words. Maybe I can sell it on eBay.

The little things.

What a good day!

Today I'm celebrating being able to wear these heels (fine, wedges) for 14 straight hours today and only coming out of it with 2 tiny blisters. Nothing a little Hello Kitty band-aid couldn't fix. I felt important walking around today, even if they didn't make that horseshoe sound that intimidates little kids so much.

Tomorrow I have the day off work and am planning on getting a lot of reading and writing done before the weekend so I can just enjoy being in the mountains! Since I time-splurged on Middlesex today, unfortunately there won't be much time for it tomorrow.

My friend Jesse just showed me an article titled "Is Fashion Smart?" Good question. What do you think?

And finally, these library themed wedding invitations are just perfect.

Going the Distance.

Last night some friends and I had dinner at Salsarita's and then went to see Going the Distance. This is the second newly-released movie that I've been to in Greenville where there were only 8 people in the theater. I don't know what to make of that information.

If you've had even ten minutes to watch tv in the past week, presumably you've already seen the trailer for this movie. I was scared all of the funny parts would have already been shown it but I was wrong- thank goodness!

Drew Barrymore and I share the same birthday, so I've always liked her a little bit more than most. Even with my bias, I think she had the best movie style. I wanted all of her clothes with the exception of that little bow-tie number she wears in the trailer.

Go see it. You will laugh.

The Routine.

Did you ever see the episode of Friends where Ross and Monica do "the routine?"

This couple decided to do it as their first dance as newlyweds.

So funny.

Enjoy it.

Aren't you glad it's the weekend? And joyful that Hurricane Earl was nothing more than a puff of air when it reached us? And elated because it's a 3 day weekend?

If not, maybe you'll be happy to hear this song. It's my new favorite.

P.S. Make sure you wear white all weekend long because it's a no-go after Labor Day. Or so I hear, anyway.
